Client Stories: Harry

August 11, 2016

Harry is a Vietnam War veteran who was disabled from a service-related injury. When he met with a Veteran Affairs social worker, they said they would help with his JEA bill. Somehow, the paperwork was mixed up and his power was disconnected. Harry’s supplemental security income was also denied. The increased stress has made his already high blood pressure rise even more. With DESC’s help, Harry will get a good night’s sleep, which he’s missed because of the warmer weather. When Harry received financial assistance, he was at a loss for words. He shook a DESC volunteer’s hand for a long time and was tearful as he left.
