The Heritage Singers of Jacksonville (HSJ), under the direction of Michael Dell, will be concluding its seventh season with a concert to benefit Downtown Ecumenical Services Council (DESC). The concert will take place on June 2, 2013, at South Jacksonville Presbyterian Church starting at 3 PM.
One of the dreams of its director and founder, Michael Dell, is that The Heritage Singers become of the people, by the people, and for the people. As such they have sought opportunities to serve the community by bringing music to groups of people who find themselves in a hard place in their lives. Thanks to the generosity of their supporters, they are pleased to use the gift of music to assist DESC on its mission.
The concert – “If Music Be the Food of Love: The Wisdom of the Poets” – will feature poetry from well-known poets such as Alfred, Lord Tennyson and James Weldon Johnson set to music by composers such as Jacksonville’s own Donald McCullough and Andrew Clarke. They promise the program will elevate your spirits to heavenly heights and make you laugh in glorious mirth.
Admission is free. The Heritage Singers encourage attendees to bring boxed and canned food for DESC’s Food Distribution Program and to be generous with the free will offering that will be collected at the concert.
